Sometimes it's quite hard to explain our passion for soccer...not that I am a big fan of soccer myself, but I'm talking about the World Cup...Let me try to describe how we feel during a match in which the Brazilian team is playing...First of all, Brazilians can't stay all by themselves...we must get friends, family, neighbours, pets, etc together...get some foods (usually a barbacue fits pretty well)...some drinks...and a huge ( or any size) TV...wear our shirts...can be the oficial team shirt, or any yellow, green or blue shirt or written "Brasil" on it (that was my case)! Now, we are ready to start watching the game...
The country stops...you don't see a human being on the streets...stores close...banks stop working...even people who is in the hospital feel better just to be able to find a TV to watch the game...
Have you ever imagine what it's like to be a Brazilian at this point? Well, nobody really remember the political crisis we've going through...neither if you have bo foods for you or your kids...because happiness for the Brazilian people is to watch a soccer game...and it's really frustrating not to win!
We sweat...we cheer...we shout (as if they could hear us...at least, I hope not!!!)...we cry...we feel...
I really wish you could see and feel what I am talking about...
Today we had the last game of the first "round" (I guess that's what the call in English), and we won! BRAZIL 4 x 1 JAPAN...Ready for the next step!?!? Because...WE ARE...
Have a great weekend...and...next game is on Tuesday...noon here in Brazil...probably sometime around 8 a.m. there...

Cris! Great blog. It reminded me of when I lived in SPain. It was the same there. EVERYONE was watching TV during the World Cup. THe whole world stopped there. I really liked the excitement and when we would be talking to anyone who happened to be outside--- and then hear the whole neighborhood yell "GOAL!!!" from their apartments, it was really fun. We will cheer for Brasil because Americans still don't know how to play soccer-- and never really will!!
It has a way of bridging cultures. Yesterday I had two maintanace guys in the house (Mexicans), and as I was flipping through channels I stopped for a minute on the cup game. They got really excited and asked me who I am rooting for...uh...I guess America? But they assured me Brazil would take it once again. Judging from how it's going so far they just might be right!
Yeah for Brazil. WE had the game on for a little while yesterday. It look liked Brazil had it in the Bag. Japan didn't have a chance. Yeah Brazil. WE are rooting for you!!!! It's fun to have you on the Blog Cris
Go Brazil! WHen I was in Spain during games no one was on the street, and when the local team scored everyone would bang pots and pans and cars whould honk their horns.
The best soccer players in Spain at the time were Brazilian...namely Ronaldo. He was and is a superstar.
I just hope that the US can be the first team to make it out of the opening round after having lost the opening game! Go Brazil!
I got to see the excitement (recored) with my Brazilian brother in law and half brazilian nephew, and wannabe Brazilian husband. It was very fun listening to little Landon shout, "Brazil, doo, doo, doo, Brazil!!"
