January BLAHS

January is almost over, thank goodness. Does anyone else dislike January as much as I do? Many of my favorite people's birthdays are in January, so those are the only reasons to like it, but the other days are just BLAH. We haven't even had any decent snow up here to play with-- it is just COLD and smoggy. I like February because it has at least one frivolous holiday and it is a short month, so when March finally comes I feel like Spring may really just be around the corner after all. This is the view out my back window. I can usually see the hills and trees about 3 miles away, but the visibility is not so great right now. I have been spoiled by an open view, and now that it is hazy, I really am feeling claustrophobic!!

Here we are making pasta- thanks to Gma Stubbs for the pasta maker-- so there can be fun things to do in the winter. The nice thing about Winter is that the kids are with me a lot-- which can also be the frustrating thing about Winter, too. I know when Spring and Summer come, they won't want to hang out in the kitchen and make pasta with me, they will want to play outside with their friends, which is what I WANT them to do. I guess I just need to appreciate the times when they are wanting to be by my side- because those times will pass quickly.

Envious that you did something worthwhile today while I, on the other hand, didn't get around to brushing my teeth until 3pm...yes, I was in my pj's the whole time too. Your girls are gorgeous!

I have pretty nieces and that is awsome pasta. I agree, January is bla. There is the let down from Christmas and family being all around, then you have to go back to work, then you start to realize that you are sick of being unable to go outside. It is dark when you get to work and dark when you get out. Here in Burley a good portion of the month the temp. didn't get above freezing and it dropped below zero each night. On Sunday it was just above 30 degrees and I walked outside without a jacket and thought spring was just around the corner! I can't wait for spring!

The cold certainly does add to the gray feeling I get in January. I think that Julie is right. Withou fresh snow, winter feels dead and boring. We have found ways to stay entertained though too. Ian is not toilet trained. I am a freelance writer for the school newspaper. And we have gotten to know some new people in the ward by hosting a game night at the community center. I wish more people would stop in and visit during the cold months. Our neighbors seem mostly content to sit at home and be depressed.

Please do visit us. We will take you to see the monkey at the pet store. If you come on a Saturday, I can hang out with you all day. If you come on a week day, Wendy and Ian will truly enjoy the company and diversion. Ian still makes me include your girls in all of the stories I tell him.
