Just when I was thinking the practice of law was stale, boring, and nothing could make it exciting, I had a meeting with clients on Saturday.

They have a dispute with family about a piece of land. The mom brought in some cookies and put them on the conference room table. (I thought she had brought them for her son who came to the meeting, too.)

At the end of the meeting, she said, "These are for you! They are in the shape of the disputed property!"

I excercized a lot of self control (to keep from saying, "You're not serious, are you?") and said, "Uh, thanks." There were several cookies, and they were very good.

I've come to the conclusion that some people are just crazy...which I'm kind of glad because they entertain the rest of us...

I wonder what kind of cookies she makes for her doctor...

Ha!!! "These are for you Doc. They are in the shape of a colon..."

I thought when I first saw the cookies and started to read your blog that she was paying you with cookies-- some really weird looking ones. You get paid with tortillas sometimes-- so why not cookies?? Make sure she makes some for the judge or the other party.

Maria Padilla came by the office while we were remodeling. She asked for the end-cuts from the bookshelves in the library. We gave them to her, free of charge. She was so grateful that she kept bringing by tortillas. We took some for free for a while, but then started buying them.

Maria Padilla's Tortillas.

I forgot to explain that she used the boards to make the tortillas. She would put the balls of dough in between the boards and hammer them down to make flat tortillas.

Dad, did the rule against perpetutities apply? Did the odd shape of the land (cookies) contribute marketability of the title ?

I can't wait for this stupid test to be over!!!

Loved your comments Mike and Julie.

That is so funny...Was this person relaly serious??? It makes you wonder about people...what thinking process does one go through in order to come to the conclusion that making cookies in the shape of the land being disputed is a good idea???

I love that person for doing that, no matter what the land dispute may be. Here take the land...you made me cookies...in the shape of the land. That's all I need.
