Memorial Day Hike

Dad and I took about a 5 mile hike on Monday. We drove up American Fork Canyon till the road closed, parked the car and hiked up to Timpanoogee Trail and then up the trail till we ran into so much snow it was to mushy and snowy to go on.  We will have to try it again later in the summer when the snow is gone.  It was really beautiful and fun to get out.

Afton and Ben love to hike so I am sure that they would love it if you take them on our next visit - the only catch is that they like to be carried. So I hope you are up for the extra challenge. Abby and I will want to go to a movie.

Sounds great. I did my pack test today and felt the need to pass all of the younger guys (I was the third to finish among 25 people). I power walked three miles in a 45 lb vest in 34 minutes and 45 seconds. Later this afternoon, we hiked across Red Hill and then ran to the top in full gear to practice deploying fire shelters. My legs are done for.

GOOD GRIEF MIKE! That would have killed me...I mean literally. You win the prize for being in the best shape in the family. Can you walk today?

No, my legs hurt today, and I have to run a mile and a half tomorrow in less than ten minutes.

I could do all of that in my sleep... that is if I were sleeping and dreaming about running up a hill with a 45 pound vest and a back pack on timpanogoes. I am so glad this family loves the wilderness so much.
