We Have Gone to the Birds

It started by placing a simple box with some bird seed on the cement wall pedestal. This follows the principle if you put out bird seed they will come. Only I had no idea how many would come and what would come. I now ration the critters to a cup a day of seed so they won't blow my food budget. But here is some of what you see if you come to my house

Yes folks. That is a pheasant! Congrats to Mark who finally caught him on film....believe me not an easy task.
In addition to doves, scrub jays, finches, sparrows, quail and a pheasant we have a humming bird that comes to my little humming bird feeder. We have named him Fred. Fred is not afraid of humans. Saturday I was out reading on the back porch when I heard a very loud whirling noise. Without moving I looked up from my book to see Fred about 5 inches away from my face just staring at me. It was a tad unnerving especially since at that range the peak on a humming bird looks like it could put your eye out. It did it several times more before he was off for the day. It is not unusual for him to stare at you through the window when he is at his feeder.

Anyway this lets you know we have gone to the birds in our backyard all because we put out a little bird seed. Come and see

Maybe if you drink some special milk, you will find that the hummingbird is really a fairy trying to communicate with you!

Eat a dragon heart. That is how you understand bird speech. Ask cousin Chip.

Yeah. I need some walrus butter to understand that Hummingbird. Yeah that is the ticket.

We are feeding the pheasant for Thanksgiving. We are going to "invite" him to eat...

I love the pheasant photo. Good job Dad. Dibs on the legs.

Those legs look awfully skinny to eat.

Personally, I think you have all gone to the birds. That makes me miss my old hummingbird feeder. I actually was attacked by a hummingbird once when I was taking the feeder inside to fill it with more syrup. They are small but pushy! I may not be joining you this year for Thanksgiving. Anyone for moose?
