Trying new Things

To appease our incredibly sophisticated pallets, we purchased some imported fruit from the local Walmart.

Have you ever eaten a persimmon?
Have you sampled a quince?

Don't.
Or at least, don't buy them at Walmart in Utah in winter.
The flavor can be described like this: after Ian took a bite, ran to the toilet, and spit it out, he said, "Let's make Eliza eat this."

Both fruits sucked all the moisture out of your mouth instantly. The internet said to eat the quince (which is rather like an apple) you cut it up in bits add a cup of sugar and boil it. Mmmmmm! That's like cooking a carp on a pine board for an hour then eating the board.

The persimmon is like, well its hard to describe because it is so weird.

The big loss was the coconut we bought but it didn't end up at the house. We think it is still at the check out counter.

Ha ha!! That is great-- did Eliza eat it??

Yes-- I have had both. Not a big fan myself. Persimmons can be made into a pudding, but then again, if you have to go to that much work to like a fruit, it isn't worth it.

You guys didn't wait until they were RIPE! Persimons shouldn't be eaten until they are squishy like a ripe tomatoe, then they don't suck your mouth dry. Ripe they are awesome, not ripe they are horrible!

There are two types of Persimmons-- ones that you should eat really ripe and the other you can eat when they are not squishy ripe. I can't remember what they are both called.

Are you sure the persimmons were really ready for eating? The ones you find here in Brazil are quite juicy and delicious...but, they must be ready for eating. Otherwise, you have a really strange taste in your month.
Well, I can't tell you about the quince...

We had persimmons too. We liked them. I think it takes kinda like a mango.

Ian's the one who is really funny. Remember the old commercial where the little boy says, "Let's get Mikie to eat it. He'll eat anything!" That's Ian! I just bought three persimmons yesterday...I am going to use them to decorate my turkey platter on Thursday. We may or may not eat them now.
