More Bird Stuff

As you know I started to feed the birds in our backyard. But now that it is winter word has gotten around the bird community about my little feeder in the backyard. I have had (no joke) some 40-50 birds in my backyard at a time. Everything from sparrows, to finches to doves. This is getting to be an expensive little venture. As Mark pointed out one day I am under no moral obligation to continue this. Thinking about this and the effect this was having on my food budget I was wondering what to do when on day I noticed no birds came. When I went to get my mail, I noticed this on the roof of my house.

Mr. Sparrow Hawk temporarily solved my problem

I'm still amazed that you even know what all of the birds are. I've always been that type of person who knows that if it's flapping its wings then it's most likely a bird of some sort. I love your bird-feed stories. :)

That's a cool looking bird. I never knew there was such thing as a sparrow hawk. Sure sounds tough.

Nice photo!

Heh, heh heh....hench bird. Julie's funny. I think you should rent Hitchcock's "The Birds" and watch it tonight. I wouldn't hang around with that guy staring at me either. He'd go straight for the eyes.

Just so you know. I talked to my bird watching friend in my art class and she got out her bird book and showed me that this is a Cooper Hawk. She said they are wrong called sparrow hawks, just because they eat sparrow. I saw him dive into my backyard the other day trying to get a sparrow. Its real drama out here

I am so sad I missed this post until now! Here's what I would have commented...ahem:

You'll go right up the food chain until you have lions in your backyard. Your only choice then is to complete the circle of life by eating the lions yourself.
