A Word on my Garden

This is a cucumber from my garden. This is a big deal. You see my shallots tops all died off, my garlic didn't do a thing, my big beef-eater tomatoes are the size of grapes and not ripe, my squash got squash beetles and my swiss chard got eaten by earwigs.
My raspberry patch is struggling and I was about ready to throw in the towel. Then I found this beautiful cucumber.
So I changed my perspective.
My carrots are growing, as are my green onions. My yellow peppers are growing ok even if they take forever (no wonder they cost so much at the store) and my tomatios are trying (please grow because I want to make green salsa). The kale is doing great (apparently bugs don't like it. Grandma Stubbs said to me the other day when I served up a kale salad, "Well ok I will try it, but I don't really think I like this". That is tactful for her.) The jury is still out on the potatoes but we'll know in the fall when we put the shovel to them. I do have fresh herbs thanks to Rich's nice herb boxes he built me and I am drying out what shallots I did get. So I will try again next year. Maybe I will do better and my neighbor can quit bringing me squash and rubbing it in.

We divided the cucumber into two bowls, one with vinegar and one without. Yummy!

Mom is a very diligent gardener.

Way to look on the positive side!

Our front grass is dead, and there is nothing we can do about it. I think that management is letting it die to save water costs. We'd be happy if there were only a single cucumber out front growing in our dead lawn.
