Its the Bee's knees

We had 5 of the grandkids here last weekend but I failed to get the camera out once.  You'll have to trust me we had a very good time.  So instead of kid pictures you get to see my new project.
My new beehive. Without the bees of course. That might be kind of awkward since this is sitting in a corner of my dining area.  The bees should arrive around April 17.  So when the weather improves I will take it out to my garden and put it on some blocks to keep it about 2 feet off the ground.
This is their little door that they will go in and out of . It even has a nice landing strip for them.
If you come to see my bees, I will open a viewing widow for you to see inside the hive. Cool huh! Of course the little bees will eventually cover everything including my view window with propolis and so I am not sure how much you will be able to see inside through the window once that happens so come and see the bees before they cover it up.
If you take the copper roof off and the ventilating quilt box, then you see this. The top of a hive box. The bees will build their comb on each of those pieces of wood. There are two boxes like this and next year I will add a third one (if everything goes as planned!) and a super box to let the bees fill with honey for me to harvest.  That is the plan anyway.  I will have to keep you posted if all this works.
Any way I await a frantic call from the post office in April to come pick up my bees and we will go from there.

That is so cool looking! What kind of wood is it made of? It looks like cedar. I can't wait for the honey!

I am so excited about your new hobby! I'll look forward to progress reports and will enjoy it vicariously through you. Something tells me they wouldn't allow a beehive where we are going to be living....
