Conference advice you won't find in the Ensign. We had Elder Oaks for stake conference. Here are my notes. (I had to stay awake because mom and I were on the stand in the choir and the camera to the other buildings had me full on the screen.)
Tid bits from Elder Oaks:
Faith in the Lord is trust in the Lord -- trust in his promised blessings and trust in his timing. Deal with the uncertainties of life by trusting in his timing. The Lord will do things "in his own time... in his own way...,"
What you hear is more important than what is said. You will never go to a bad sacrament meeting if you go there to "hear" rather than to judge what is "said". A bad sacrament meeting talk can be what opens you to receiving what the Spirit intends you to hear if you are listening.
The Church is not a retirement home for the righteous but a hospital for sinners. (One sister, a new convert, said once, "That's why you call them "wards"!!)
A manifestation from the Holy Ghost is different from the gift of the Holy Ghost.
We usually don't need to worry about the big sins. Satan will cause us to do those those things that cause us to lose the Spirit, or he will cause us not to do those things the will bring the Spirit to us.
Today, Elder Holland was in the Ivory Coast organizing the 3000th stake of the church.

Thanks Dad.
This was an exception meeting. Dad made sure Matthew Ma got to meet Elder Oakes. Elder Oakes gave Matthew a big hug. I think it had a very positive effect on Matthew
That was really great advice, thanks!
I'm glad that you shared this. Thanks. It's also great that Matthew got to meet Elder Oaks.
