We picked up a missionary at the airport on Tuesday. We took up our usual posts of waiting
Our newest ASL missionary
Two sisters came to eat waffles early Tuesday on their P day. One of them goes home in a few weeks. They asked if they could have waffles with us. Sure!
Thursday evening was the Marine Chaplain Ball at the MCRD. We gathered at the Battalion for car pool.
Our photographers.. Two sisters at the Battalion. They are so wonderful.
The Cake at the Ball. They cut it with a sword. The Military does everything big
Our senior couples who work with the military in San Diego and two Mormon Military chaplains. The Navy supplies the Marines and Coast Guard with Chaplains. San Diego has over a 100,000 active military throughout the area here. So we pay attention to military events. There are 118,00 military families here. So there is lots for our senior missionaries to do. Two of the men are former colonels in the army. One is a former navy man. They were teaching me how to read all the stripes, rockers and stars around the room. Lots of dress blues. It was very interesting to attend.
And here is our December Mission Leadership Council on Friday. We are combing zones and so the group will no longer be this larger. They were kind of quiet because of that and the fact a good number go home in another week. They did get excited when we issued them their new smart phones and they could turn in their little flip phones. We got text messages all night with emojis and such just because they could I think. So funny.
After MLC we went to Ramona where two of our sisters had invited us to dinner with some new converts. They prepared us dinner as they way of giving on the Light the World first day. It was really tender. The new converts are in their seventies and have been through so much but you can feel the peace and joy they feel because of the Gospel. They feed the missionaries all the time and that is one reason the sisters wanted to give to them. It was a spiritual night seeing the tremendous difference the Gospel makes for people. The Lord really loves us and wants us to be happy. And ward member/neighbor is who opened his mouth and made all the difference in these two people's lives. The woman was able to go to the temple and get her daughter baptized who had died of cancer. And the son in law has since been baptized. It was a special evening .
Then it was home to prepare for stake conference today in San Diego Stake and for Sunday's events.
We love you all. Keep warm or just come see us and you will warm up. I do actually wear a sweater at night's now and in the early morning.
love you
